Final Animation – Sandy Yoon

Lunchsense Presents

Live, Love, Lunch: An Office Love Story

http://vimeo.com/33658989

I struggled in the beginning with the narrative of this spot. The lighthearted, playful tone of the piece is hopefully conveyed through the motion and character design, in efforts to promote the product in a cheerful and positive light.

Thank you everyone and Tracy! I thoroughly enjoyed the class and learned a lot about the principles of animation. Best of luck to everyone~

Week #10 Animation – Sandy Yoon

  • 5 Animation Inspirations
    1. Thought of You, Ryan J Woodward
    2. The Music Scene, Anthony Francisco Schepperd
    3. Cat-Man-Do, Simon’s Cat
    4. Apache, oneedo
    5. Du monde tout autour, Louise Attaque
  • Animation HW 10
    1. Lip Sync
    2. Approx 5 hrs to animate / process
    3. Problems
      • Timing, and clarity with speaking voice. It was easier to animate singing.
      • I couldn’t find a good clip for “Where do you think you’re going,” so I just found one that was similar.
    4. Ah Ha
      • Timing the large movements first
      • The handouts really helped.
    5. If I animated this again I would:
      • Find voice clips that feature more contrast in mouth shapes
    6. REFLECT: What worked? What didn’t? What would you change next time?
      • I think the lyrics were easier to animate, and the contrast in mouth shapes helped convey the syllables. The quote from Anchorman was too subtle to really exaggerate and emphasize.

Week #9 Animation – Sandy Yoon

    1. Scene with 2 characters and a ball
    2. Approx 4 hrs to animate / process
    3. Problems
      • Tweaking the timing spacing of the character
    4. Ah Ha
      • Thinking about each shape’s character, goals, and obstacles
      • Disregarding my storyboard…
    5. If I animated this again I would:
      • Exaggerate the movements even more, create a more complex story
    6. REFLECT: What worked? What didn’t? What would you change next time?
      • The simple design of the characters, aesthetically and technically, allowed me to move them very easily. I think the main character’s movements show anticipation, squash and stretch. It could be pushed further.

Week #8 – Walk Cycle Review & Homework

Great job in class today. Seriously, not only was it amazing because you were using a new medium, but you had nothing but your bodies to pull information from (sans mirror). Watch your animation a few more times and notice where the body positions are the strongest. Why do you think that is? Where are they the weakest? Why?

Check out all of the readings below before you start your homework.

Walk Cycle – Williams & Blair

    Walks of 4-Legged Creatures

    Homework:

Animate a walk cycle of your choosing for 10 seconds. Add some personality. Be creative. Step outside of your comfort zone and try a technique or style you normally shy away from.

Week #7 Animation – Sandy Yoon

    1. 5 sec animation
    2. Approx 4 hrs to animate
    3. Problems
      • Getting used to using my brand new tablet. Harder than I expected!
    4. Ah Ha
      • It was helpful to read the music using premiere, and matching the action to the exact frames.
    5. If I animated this again I would:
      • Exaggerate the characters’ actions even more.
    6. REFLECT: What worked? What didn’t? What would you change next time?
      • The music once again really drove the narrative of this animation. I specifically chose a pre-made short clip that was very mysterious and easy to interpret.

Week #6 Animation – Sandy Yoon

    1. Animation to Music
    2. Approx 6 hrs to animate
    3. Problems
      • I want to try using a wacom next week to get a more fluid, hand-drawn animation look and feel.
    4. Ah Ha
      • Animating masks in AE
    5. If I animated this again I would:
      • Add more curves and arcs
    6. REFLECT: What worked? What didn’t? What would you change next time?
      • For me, animating to music helps to drive the action / narrative. I think this week the movement synced well to the music, but I would have liked to have even more oomph in the character.

Week #6 Drawing – Sandy Yoon

    1. Flight of Birds
    2. Approx. 0.6 hr to draw / redraw, 0.5 hr to process ( scan, overlay, upload )
    3. What I Discovered In this Exercise

I should have been more attentive to the individual feathers of the bird’s wings and tail, I think the body and the head were more or less in place, but the details were not aligned.
